Textile Sound is the second work in the series Mechanics and Sound. Inspired by a visit to the German Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments in Bruchsal, the piece inverts the logic of automated instruments: instead of reading a pre-written score, it generates its own through sound and motion. Mechanically driven structures activate elements resembling a loom, producing tones similar to wind chimes, piano, cymbal, and guitar. Sensors and programmed mechanisms orchestrate a random symphony while the continuously rolling textile leaves visible traces, forming a physical score of sound.
