Thabisa Dinga is a bow player with roots in Southern African indigenous music traditions such as the Uhadi. Her research explores how these instruments can remain vital and expressive in contemporary performance contexts. Working with sensors, a force-sensitive resistor, a push button for sample triggering, and a foot pedal for volume and filtering, she developed a custom extended instrument setup that translates physical playing gestures into electronic sound control. The result is a deeply personal performance practice that bridges ancestral musical heritage with live electronic music.

Technical Setup

Arduino, Force-Sensitive Resistor, Push Button, Foot Pedal, Max/MSP
