Short Bio

Lorenz Schwarz is a Research Associate and Lecturer in Media Art Sound at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG Karlsruhe). His practice centres on experimental electronics, self-built synthesizers, and multichannel spatial audio. In 2017 he was a Guest Researcher at ZKM Karlsruhe, investigating audio-modulated plasma loudspeakers for multichannel sound art. As founder of the Circuitry-Based Sound workshop series, he has taught DIY electronics across South Africa, China, and Germany. As co-investigator of the Intercultural Media and Music Practice (IMMP) programme, with Dr. Paul Modler, funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, he co-leads an exchange between HfG Karlsruhe and the South African College of Music. His installations and performances have been presented internationally, including at ZKM Karlsruhe, ARKO Seoul, NYU Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Cape Town. He has presented research at NIME, Audio Mostly, and related conferences.
