Short Bio

Lorenz Schwarz is a Research Associate and Lecturer in Media Art Sound at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG Karlsruhe). His practice centres on experimental electronics, self-built synthesizers, and multichannel spatial audio. In 2017 he was a Guest Researcher at ZKM Karlsruhe, investigating audio-modulated plasma loudspeakers for multichannel sound art. As founder of the Circuitry-Based Sound workshop series, he has taught DIY electronics across South Africa, China, and Germany. As co-investigator of the Intercultural Media and Music Practice (IMMP) programme, with Dr. Paul Modler, funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, he co-leads an exchange between HfG Karlsruhe and the South African College of Music. His installations and performances have been presented internationally, including at ZKM Karlsruhe, ARKO Seoul (with Bang&Lee), NYU Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Cape Town. He has presented research at NIME, Audio Mostly, and related conferences.
